First Aid Guidance for Organisations
Health and Safety Executive (HSE)
According to the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981, organisations are required to make appropriate first aid arrangements in order to protect the welfare of their employees. The specific first aid arrangements however, depend on the workplace, the workforce and the hazards and risks present, and should be determined using a First Aid Needs Assessment.
“As a minimum, you must have a suitably stocked first-aid kit, an appointed person to take charge of first-aid arrangements, and information for all employees giving details of first-aid arrangements”.

OFSTED
Anyone involved in the early years foundation stage (EYFS) such as teachers, childcare providers and childminders must be qualified in paediatric first aid.
“At least one person who has a current paediatric first aid (PFA) certificate must be on the premises at all times when children are present, and must accompany children on outings. The certificate must be a full course consistent with the criteria set out in Annex A”. (Department for Education (DfE) Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), 2021)
